Mrs Cox Music Leader

Music has been a part of Walter Halls for many years. It is one of our school drivers and we take pride in offering our students lots of opportunity to take part in music and musical events. We believe that learning an instrument can bring so much to an individuals life and wellbeing and the skills you develop such as practise and concentration can help you in lots of other areas.

In Y4 every child has the opportunity to learn either a Clarinet or a Brass instrument in school as part of our membership of the Nottingham Music Hub. In addition to this we also offer:

Drumming Workshops

The children in Year 3, 5 and 6 receive drumming workshops delivered by a specialist teacher in the summer term.

Musical Tuition

We offer subsidised tuition in the following instruments:

All of our tutors come on a Wednesday afternoon apart from our guitar tutor Matt who teaches on a Friday morning. When they are ready the children are entered into ABRSM music exams or music awards. Every Year several children achieve this success.

Our school choir is led by Mrs cox on a Monday afternoon. The choir have a regular set of events in which they perform including:

  • The School Harvest Festival
  • Christmas Carol Concert at St Jude's Church
  • The Year 6 Leavers Assembly
  • Area Choir at the Nottingham Albert Hall
  • Visits to Our Local Home for the Elderly
  • Supporting Chorus, Interval or opening Songs in the KS1 and KS2 Nativities and Productions

They really are an outstanding group. Come along to one of our events marked on the diary and see for yourself.

Band Camp

Every year we take some children to band camp which is held in Ilam Hall in the Peak district. this truly is an incredible opportunity where the children learn to read music, attend workshops and perform in so many magical ways which include a midnight walk to find the phantom trumpeter  a musical call and response competition and musical orienteering. this year Miss Moran went and had so much fun with the children learning to play the trumpet.

Rainbow Stripes Early Years Sing Along
