We are happy to let you know that we will be joining in once more with RSE Day on Thursday 25th June. RSE day was actually started by Nottingham city in 2018. This year’s theme is ‘Books I love About Love’ so look out for some book themed ideas in the home learning plans for next week too.
At school we have been working closely together to be ready for the introduction of RSE as a legal requirement from September 2020. We had plans in place for consultations with parents at parents evening in March and a coffee morning ready in May with the Local Authority RSE lead consultant Catherine Kirk but we all know what happened to put the brakes on! It is very important to Kerrie and I that we give as many of our parents the chance to respond to a consultation so we are currently planning new ways to do this, which will start with an online survey coming soon.
For now, the RSE policy is already on the school website and the Wellbeing Curriculum group in school are continuing to collaborate to be ready to share the teaching plans for RSE for each year group. We think it is important to say here that teaching RSE at Walter Halls is not something brand new, we have always recognised the value of teaching about healthy relationships but we have had to ensure that our teaching covers all of the requirements in the new framework.
Next week in school we will be making some heart bunting, reading books that we love about love and generally thinking about friendships and kindness. We would love you to join in at home too so have a look under the sunshines and see what you can do.
If you have any questions about the activities or our approach to RSE at Walter Halls then please get in touch with either one of us.
